A native of Saginaw, MI, Ty has worked in the ice industry since the age of 14.
His career spans the range from daily facility maintenance to complete facility operational planning. Ty has experience working in and with arenas from Utah to Virginia and in a variety of contexts, such as not-for-profit, private, government, and university settings. He has been an integral part of planning and construction of both ice and multi-use facilities.
Ty has become an educator among his peers, serving as an instructor for U.S. Ice Rinks Association (formerly STAR) for over four years. The 2013 STAR Ambassador Award winner, Ty also serves on the STAR Board of Directors. His passions for hockey and educating others have led to his service as USA Hockey's Southeastern District Coach-in-Chief, where he has assisted in re-designing coaching education materials and classroom presentations, and has educated many of the country's youth hockey coaches.
Currently Executive Director/General Manager of the Fort Dupont Ice Arena, a not-for-profit rink in Washington, DC, Ty has successfully partnered with the District of Columbia City Council to procure $15M for the construction of a new facility that will allow thousands of disadvantaged children to participate in ice sports free of charge.
