Dave began working in ice rinks at the age of 17 in 1980. Continuing to work in local rinks while playing ice hockey in the USHL ending up in Denver, Colorado in 1984. While in Denver, Dave continued to work part time in rinks while earning a Plant Engineering Certification. He returned to ice rinks full time in 1990 in Florida, where the rink industry grew from 4 ice rinks to 23 in a 10-year period.
During this time, he worked up from the operations manager at a single sheet ice rink to a twin sheet ice rink. He finally became the General Manager of a 3-rink facility with a health club and restaurant. Then in 2000 began to work for U.S. Ice Rinks Association (formerly STAR) full time as the Director, Facility Programs.
Dave traveled the country extensively for the last 14 years instructing ice rink facility operations and management courses including refrigeration, ice resurfacers, risk management and rink programming. When not on the road instructing, Dave is providing information and expertise to groups that are developing rink projects, expert witness testimony, and management consulting services. He also coordinates training classes and develop instructional materials for use in U.S. Ice Rinks Association training programs.
In August of 2011, Dave became the Ice Technician for PNC Arena (home of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes). In this position, he was responsible for the Field of Play for NHL Hockey. Dave also acted as the Ice Tech for many US National Figure Skating and Ice Hockey events. Additionally, he was the Assistant Ice Operations Manager for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Games, Ice Master for the 2006 Torino Olympic Games, and Ice Tech for 2 Figure Skating World Championships and the 2011 World Jr Hockey Tournament.
In 2014, Dave opened All Star Arenas, LLC with two other strategic partners.
